Can you tell us a little about the internship and what you will be doing this summer?
I will be working with a team of students from other schools helping the EH&S department at the Lafayette North Plant. The structure is very similar to a full-time job, and I’m very excited to be able to learn more about how companies go about maintaining health and safety standards.
How did you find your internship, and any tips for other students?
I found my internship because of the career fairs. I cannot stress how important they are! I had spoken to the Wabash representative at two different career fairs, and because of that he recognized my name in the application pool and this sped up the interview and hiring process. My biggest tip for other students is that there is no such thing as being too proactive when it comes to finding an internship or job! Go to the career fairs, send follow-up emails, put yourself out there! It can be scary at first, but I promise it will get easier! I also can’t stress enough how amazing and helpful the O’Neill Career Center is. They want you to come in with those silly questions and want to help you! They helped me with my resume, cover letters, interview prep, and any other random questions I had. I wish I had had something like this at my undergraduate, so take advantage of it while you can!
What are you most excited about regarding your internship?
I think I’m mostly excited to work with other students! I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about the pay, but that’s just the cherry on top of an amazing opportunity for me.
