This week's Graduate Student Newsletter kicks off our fall series on career "deep dives". Every other week, we will take a deeper dive into one of the career areas that align with O'Neill graduate programs. We will spotlight 2-3 employers, feature key opportunities with these organizations, and provide links to valuable resources on career preparation, recruitment and insights. As always, we will continue to include hot jobs and internships for O'Neill graduates across many fields as we do in each weekly newsletter.
This week we focus on Consulting Careers. O'Neill graduate students are highly competitive for consulting positions in a broad range of industries.
What is a Consultant?
Consultants provide expert advice and guidance. While this could technically mean providing suggestions and strategies on where to go for dinner, consultants usually work on business and financial matters.
Though it can take years to gain enough experience to truly feel like an expert, anyone can become a consultant if they're open to new experiences and willing to learn. Click HERE for an overview of consultant responsibilities, salaries, industries, and required skills.

Case Interview Guidelines & Preparation
Consulting firms LOVE case interviews. Why? Because rather than give you hypothetical scenarios, a lot of the cases given during interviews are real scenarios that consulting firms advise clients through. Here are some common trends for what consulting firms are looking for:
- The approach you take to solving a problem
- How analytical and creative your thinking is
- Your usage of data to quantify and make your recommendations
- Your communication skills in conveying your ideas
- How you would suggest implementing these proposals
The Case Interview is a unique process and takes preparation. Here are several resources to help you prepare for the case interview.
